Department of New York Member at Large Detachment Coming Soon!

The Marine Corps League Department of New York has initiated a charter application to create a Department Member of Large Detachment. Currently there is a National Member at Large (MAL), and several other Departments in the Division also have their own MAL Detachments.

A member at large is a member who is a member of the Marine Corps League, but not specifically a member of a specific Detachment.

The goal is to have those members who reside within the State of New York, be part of the Department of New York. Some of the benefits of being a member of the Department of New York are:

  • $3,500 accidental death and dismember policy provided by the Department
  • Eligible to obtain Marine Corps League branded New York State Vehicle and Motorcycle license plates.
  • Apply for the New York Marine Corps League Foundation scholarships, The scholarships provide financial assistance for the higher education of children, grandchildren, and dependents, of members of the Department of New York, Marine Corps League, whose current tenure is five (5) or more year’s continuous membership in the Marine Corps League – Department of New York

The selected name of the detachment is the Empire State Leathernecks Detachment #1493. The name represents the entire state, not just one region.
